Strategic Planning: Identify strategies

It is important to choose practices that are likely to achieve desired changes in individual behavior, systems, and environments. Before adopting a program that seems promising, consider whether it reflects the best available evidence (i.e., scientific research or expert consensus) and addresses the specific problems you identified in your community.

Strategic interventions describe the actions you want to take, such as:

  • Identify people at risk of suicide
  • Increase help-seeking
  • Provide access to effective mental health services
  • Respond to suicide-related crises
  • Restrict access to lethal means
  • Promote life skills development, including self-care
  • Promote connectedness
