Suicide Prevention and Treatment in Rough Economic Times
Presenter: Lisa Firestone, PhD
The most common psychiatric emergency we face as psychotherapists is suicide. Seventy-one percent of psychotherapists report at least one client attempting suicide, while 28% report having at least one die by suicide. The National Violent Death Reporting System released data indicating that at least 16% of American suicides involve economic strain. In light of the tragedies associated with the current financial crisis, this workshop addresses the need for training for psychotherapists in the management and treatment of suicidal clients.
