2008 Suicide Prevention Symposium: Transforming Communities and Lives
Florida Statewide Office of Suicide Prevention
Caribe Royale Resort and Suites
Orlando, FL
This two-day event attracts clinicians, social workers, parents, community members, school personnel, counselors, and mental health and substance abuse professionals to learn about the latest research, best practices, and model programs in suicide prevention. This year, the symposium is being held in conjunction with the Statewide Prevention Conference (Oct. 1-3), one of the largest prevention focused conferences in the nation. Workshop topics include elder, veteran, youth and faith-based populations; transforming communities and lives to promote healthy development; caring for those who have lost loved ones to suicide; addressing trauma; treating at-risk youth; school crisis and school safety; self injury; mental illness; and best practices in suicide prevention. The conference theme, "Transforming Communities and Lives", focuses on each person's ability to contribute to changing the culture to promote healthy development, reduce stigma, improve quality of life, and prevent suicide. The symposium will feature innovative workshops, plenary sessions, and an opportunity for poster presentations that will inspire our work and take us to a new understanding of the problem of suicide.
The current conference agenda, registration information, and poster submission procedures can be found on the conference website.
Accommodations: The discounted conference rate at the Caribe Royale is $155 for a queen suite (+ applicable fees and taxes); mention the Florida Prevention Conference when making your reservation to get the discounted group rate. (http://www.cariberoyale.com)
