Clinicians As Survivors of Suicide Loss
NAMI NH, NH Suicide Prevention Council
Concord NH
Concord, NH
From noon to 1:30 at New Hampshire Hospital.
Research indicates that the suicide death of a client can have a profound personal and professional impact on clinicians working in the mental health field. Likewise the death of a family member, friend or colleague can also take an emotional and professional toll. Too often clinician survivors receive inadequate support in navigating the difficult legal, ethical, personal and performance related issues which can occur in the aftermath of a suicide death. This workshop will explore these difficult challenges and will include a panel of clinician survivors who will discuss how suicide death has impacted them.
As a result of this workshop participants will be able to:
1. Discuss results of research related to the impact of suicide
on clinicians
2. Understand the personal and professional impact suicide has
on clinicians
3. Discuss legal and ethical considerations for clinicians after
a suicide death
4. Develop a process for supporting clinical staff after a
suicide death

If you treat patients who have anxiety disorders or conduct research on anxiety and related disorders, you need to attend the ADAA Annual Conference. ADAA members receive a registration discount. Join ADAA.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW AND STATEMENT OF NEED
The Annual Conference of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America is designed to meet the educational needs of members and nonmember clinicians and researchers. Current data suggests that in any given year more than 40 million adults in the United States suffer from an anxiety disorder.
Anxiety disorders are the most commonly diagnosed disorders in children.
ADAA members are among the leading experts in the field of anxiety disorders. Many researchers identify the underlying mechanisms for these disorders and develop new treatment strategies, as well as conduct research on effectiveness. The desired results for the meeting are that attendees learn the latest developments in preclinical and clinical research, translate this knowledge to clinicians, and develop new skills and techniques to improve diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of anxiety disorders.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Garrett Lee Smith State & Tribal Youth Suicide Prevention Meeting
SAMHSA, SPRC
Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV
SAMHSA is pleased to announce that the FY 2009 Garrett Lee Smith State & Tribal Youth Suicide Prevention Meeting will be held on March 15-18, 2010 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first national suicide prevention meeting was held in Nevada in 1998 and resulted in the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention. This state has held and continues to hold an important role in suicide prevention efforts. Nevada’s senior senator has been a staunch supporter of suicide prevention and the hotel and per diem rates in Las Vegas are favorable: We were able to negotiate a hotel rate of $79 plus tax for our meeting. The government lodging rate for Las Vegas (referred to often as the per diem rate) is $126 plus tax. The state of Nevada has had a GLS grant and currently, the Indian Health Board of Nevada is funded through the GLS program.
As you know, GLS grantees are required to send three to five representatives to the meeting, including the Project Director, the Evaluator and, if possible, at least one member of the program’s public-private coalition. We also recommend that you send the person who manages your program implementation.
For Tribal Grantees: Please plan on arriving Sunday afternoon, March 14, so that you can participate in the Tribal Grantee day beginning Monday morning, March 15. Please plan to stay through noon on Thursday, March 18.
For State Grantees: Please plan on arriving Monday afternoon, March 15, so that you can participate in the State and Tribal meeting beginning Tuesday morning, March 16. Please plan to stay through noon on Thursday, March 18.
Although Cohort 3 grantees (funded in 2007) have already met grant requirements by attending the last two annual meetings, SAMHSA cordially invites and encourages Cohort 3 to join us, learn with us, and pass on your “lessons learned” to more recent grant recipients.
Our thanks to those of you who completed the recent survey on the 2010 grantee meeting. SAMHSA, SPRC, and Macro cross-site staff will use your feedback to develop an agenda with topics and structure to best serve your needs. In the coming weeks, we will asking for grantees to submit abstracts for presentations during the State and Tribal portion of the meeting.
Key reminder: All expenses are to be covered by your individual grant funds unless you are on a no cost extension.
Stay tuned for more detailed information, including a call for abstracts. We will send you more information on conference registration, travel, and hotel reservations in the coming months. We look forward to seeing you in March!
