These State Data Sheets include:

a) state suicide statistics for 1995 through 1998 using information from the National Center for Health Statistics Vital Statistics System fatality censuses for average annual death counts, and Bureau of Census population estimates for death rates.

b) estimated hospitalized attempts for the years 1997-2001, using state hospital discharge data, mortality data, and Bureau of census population estimates. In some cases, agency data specific to individual states were used.

c) data on injury costs, medical costs, work loss costs, gender, race/ethnicity, age and method.
