Training Institute of the Suicide Prevention Resource Center

The SPRC Training Institute provides an ever-expanding array of curricula designed to build capacity for suicide prevention in state, tribal, local, and community-based organizations. These high-quality curricula reflect the emphasis on training found in the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention, and in that spirit, are provided at the lowest cost possible to individuals and communities across the country.

SPRC began developing its training capacity at its inception in 2002, by working with several partner organizations to develop new curricula. At the same time, SPRC formed an alliance with the National Center for Suicide Prevention Training, which had already begun developing web-based trainings for youth suicide prevention. These collaborations are producing rich training opportunities for individuals in all walks of life who want to make a difference in the campaign to reduce suicide's heavy toll.

Descriptions of each of the Institute's course offerings follow. If you have questions about a particular course or suggestions for additional offerings, please contact us at info@sprc.org.

Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk: Core Competencies for Mental Health Professionals: SPRC, in partnership with the American Association of Suicidology (AAS), has developed a one-day competencies-based training curriculum for mental health professionals. Here you will find a description of the workshop, trainers who can deliver it in your community, how the competencies were developed, and the materials available for participants.
Schedule of Workshops

Discussion Series: The SPRC Discussion Series seeks to foster meaningful dialogue on suicide and suicide prevention among practitioners, researchers, and others working in the field. Recordings of these teleconferences, as well as supplementary materials from each session, can be accessed online. Information on upcoming Discussions in this series can be found on the Calendar.

Online Workshops: Four self-paced online workshops are available free of charge. Each workshop focuses on youth suicide prevention but much of the content is applicable to suicide across the lifespan. Continuing education credits are available.
