Moving Forward

Your interest in engaging people with lived experience means you are close to joining the growing movement to actively and authentically involve these individuals in suicide prevention efforts. People with lived experience can make substantial contributions to enrich the planning, strategy implementation, practice reviews, policy development, and leadership in suicide prevention.

As you continue to grow your efforts to incorporate lived experience throughout your organization, a positive next step would be to develop a thoughtful strategy and structured approach for using the perspectives of people with lived experience. It would go beyond reviewing and developing suicide prevention strategies and activities, and include examining procedures, decision-making practices, and developing policies within your organization.

We hope this publication will help you and other organizations intentionally involve individuals with lived experience in quality improvement efforts, developing effective suicide prevention practices and messaging, and reinforcing an inclusive organizational climate. Together, we will transform communities and save lives.
