The Colorado Gun Shop Project is working with gun shops, pawn shops, firing range owners, gun clubs, and firearms safety instructors to promote suicide prevention awareness and prevent the sale and rental of firearms to people who may be at risk for suicide. The project is sponsored by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and supported by the Colorado Firearm Safety Coalition, which hope to expand it to include firearms safety courses, hunting safety instructors, gun shows, and law enforcement agencies. The effort is based on a program created by the New Hampshire Firearms Safety Coalition and the Means Matter Campaign at Harvard University.
