Pentagon plans national mental health campaign, Associated Press, May. 2, 2008

In an effort to reduce stigma and increase help-seeking behavior among members of the military, the Department of Defense is implementing a new policy on security clearances and planning a national awareness campaign on mental illness. The process of applying for national security clearances will no longer require federal employees to disclose information on consulting mental health professionals, as long as the treatment was not court-ordered or related to violent behavior. The awareness campaign, still in the planning stages, will focus on treatment and developing support networks for those with mental illness and could utilize print and broadcast media.
