Construction companies in the UK are collaborating on a new initiative to reduce suicide among workers. The Mates in Mind program, which is led by the Health in Construction Leadership Group, aims to reach at least 100,000 construction workers this year and 75 percent of industry personnel by 2025. The program consists of an awareness campaign that promotes positive mental health, information sharing, and employer support. More than 300 construction companies and several mental health groups have backed the program. Similar coalitions have formed in the U.S., including the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention, led by the Construction Financial Management Association, which collaborates with mental health experts to train construction industry members in suicide prevention.
