The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has released a report on its most recent analysis of veteran suicide data for all 50 states and the District of Columbia from 2005 to 2015. The data show that the average number of veterans who died by suicide each day remained unchanged at 20. The suicide rate was higher among veterans who had not recently used Veterans Health Administration health care services than among those who had. The National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Action Alliance) has released a statement on the report highlighting the importance of community-based approaches to preventing veteran suicide.
