In Washington State, the metropolitan health department for Seattle and King County has partnered with firearm retailers to carry out the “Safe Storage Saves Lives” campaign. Also referred to as “LOK-IT-UP,” the initiative focuses on family and community safety. The campaign seeks to prevent suicides as well as access to firearms by unsupervised children. It raises awareness of safe storage device options and how to practice safe storage in the home. As a part of the campaign, retailers are distributing information on safe firearms storage and offering discounts on firearm storage devices.
