SAFE-T Pocket Card

The SAFE-T Card guides mental health clinicians through five steps which address the patient’s level of suicide risk and suggest appropriate interventions. It is intended to provide an accessible and portable resource to the professional whose clinical practice includes suicide assessment. The card lists key risk and protective factors that should be considered in the course of completing the five-steps. The PDF image of the card prints out on in the center of 8.5 X 11 paper because the original is a 6x7 2-sided, folded pocket card. The Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has founded a national suicide prevention hotline to ensure veterans in emotional crisis have free, 24/7 access to trained counselors. To operate the Veterans Hotline, the VA partnered with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Veterans can call the Lifeline number, 1-800-273-TALK (8255), and press "1" to be routed to the Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline.

SafeTALK
