Understanding the Categories within the State Pages

History of State Suicide Prevention Efforts:
Information about the history of suicide prevention in the state, including coalition formation, key legislation, or benchmark events in the state.


Recent Developments:
A forum for state team leaders to post information related to state planning, or other events within their states, progress reports on state planning goals, important announcements and other pertinent items.


State Events:
A listing of conferences, meetings, trainings or other events taking place in your state. To view State and National upcoming events, please visit the SPRC Calendar of Events. If you would like to add a particular event, please take a moment to fill out our online Add Your Event form.


Scope of Plan:
Scope refers to the particular demographic, if any, that the state plan addresses, e.g., some states may have a youth-focused plan, whereas other states may have a plan that covers the entire life course.


Link to State Plan:
A direct link to the comprehensive Suicide Prevention Plan of individual states, if available.


State Suicide Data:
A link to state-specific SPRC data sheets. State ranking, magnitude of the problem, leading methods, demographics, as well as injury, medical and work loss costs are presented. Please note: data on suicide and self-inflicted injury are never complete. Social stigma and incomplete information about intentionality often result in an underestimate of suicidal behavior.

WISQARS (Web-based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System): Fatal Injuries: Mortality Reports
A database operated by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Centers for Disease Control, of U.S. injury mortality data that generates tables of injury deaths and death rates by particular causes of injury mortality. The tables can be created based on geographic region, year, age, race, and sex.


State & Local Prevention Resources:
A listing of resources within the state which advance statewide suicide prevention. This includes a list of organizations within the state, engaged in suicide prevention and collaborated with the state to implement the state plan, as well as a list of suicide prevention materials developed within the state.

ORGANIZATIONS
A listing of select organizations within the state, engaged in suicide prevention. This is not an exhaustive list. It features organizations collaborating with the state effort to advance suicide prevention and implement the state plan.

MATERIALS
A list of materials containing information about suicide prevention and related topics in a specific state. Please visit the SPRC Library at http://library.sprc.org.


Legislation/Resolutions:
Information on any policy measures directly related to suicide prevention in the state, including measures allocating funding for state plan creation, implementation or evaluation. Links to legislative measures will also be included when available.


Funding Sources:
Information on funding for the state plan, including whether the state plan has received funding, funding source(s), level of funding, length of funding allocation, and additional state funding resources.


Contact Information:
Contact information for the person(s) who are taking the lead in the state plan development or implementation process. This information is intended for use by anyone who would like to be involved in his or her state team.

Local Prevention Networks:
This list is intended for the purpose of fostering collaboration among people involved in suicide prevention in each state and includes selected regional, state and community-based suicide prevention organizations. This is not an exhaustive list of all suicide prevention efforts in each state.
