Recent Developments:

• Judith Harrington, a member of the Task Force who leads a suicide support group, will provide training to the Task Force about issues related to family members who complete suicide
  
  
• Task Force members plan to volunteer to speak at conferences held within their specific disciplines to create more awareness about suicide prevention across the state

Legislation/Resolutions:

• 2008 – Sponsors have submitted a bill for legislation called the Teen Suicide and Violence Prevention Act of 2008. The bill has passed in the House of the State legislature.
  
  
• 2004 – September 8, Alabama Governor Bob Riley proclaimed the week of September 5, 2004 to be Suicide Prevention Awareness Week; a ceremony was held, copies of the Alabama state plan were distributed, and survivors shared their stories; representatives of crisis line centers from throughout the state attended
