Materials
Legislation/Resolutions:
- 2009 – Alaska passed House Bill 123, which extends the statewide Suicide Prevention Council another 4 years, through June 30, 2013. It also expanded the membership of the Council to include a public member as well as representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Education and Early Development.
- 2009 – Alaska passed House Bill 83 which makes appropriations for the operating and capital expenses of the state's integrated comprehensive mental health program. The act specifically appropriates $2,135,700 for rural services and suicide prevention for FY2010.
- 2007 – $2,241,243 was appropriated for suicide prevention and the rural human services system
- 2005 – SB60 passed in 2005, and kept the Suicide Prevention Council as an active statewide board until 2009, when it will be reviewed once again. Funding for FY06 was over $120,000.
Funding Sources:
- 2008 – The federal agency SAMHSA awarded Alaska Behavioral Health a $1.5 million grant for the Alaska Youth Suicide Prevention Project for three years. The project will enhance and expand suicide prevention programs and services to specific regions and youth populations where suicide rates are exceedingly high.
- Alaska's Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) was funded through Senate Bill 198 to establish a statewide Suicide Prevention Council for the purpose of drafting a suicide prevention plan; the plan will be implemented by programs at the community level with technical assistance from the DHSS
