Recent Developments:

• The new Suicide Prevention Advisory Committee began meeting in November 2006.
  
  
• The number of regional resource centers providing suicide prevention services was expanded from four to seven in July 2006.

• Missouri Revised Statutes Ch. 630 Section 630.910 – regarding creation of a suicide prevention advisory committee. (2005)
  
  
• Missouri Revised Statutes Ch. 630 Section 630.140 – existing statute regarding exemptions from confidentiality updated to include suicide prevention as a reason to share or disclose otherwise confidential information. (2005)
  
  
• Missouri Revised Statutes Ch. 537 Section 537.037 – existing “Good Samaritan law” updated to include suicide prevention interventions (2005)
  
  
• Missouri Revised Statutes Ch. 630 sec. 630.900 – regarding the creation of an official state suicide prevention plan (2003)
  
  
• Missouri Revised Statutes Ch. 376 Section 376.620 – longstanding statute regarding life insurance policies and suicide
  
  

Funding Sources:

• 2006 – The Department of Mental Health has awarded funding to seven agencies across the state to provide an array of services, including free prevention training and support groups for suicide survivors. A list of these regional resource centers is available here. Please contact the agency in your area for more information on available services.
  
  
• 2005 – State grantee of Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act (SAMHSA) funding: Approximately $400,000
