Recent Developments:
- State grantee of Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act (SAMHSA) funding
- Governor Judy Martz recently awarded grants totaling $40,000 to four agencies in Montana for the development of youth suicide programs
- The Department of Public Health has an active Advisory Committee, which has an interest in suicide prevention
- Montana currently has 150 certified QPR instructors in 44 communities AFSP Montana is committed to providing suicide prevention training throughout Montana

Legislation/Resolutions:
- 2007 – The 2007 Montana Legislature passed Senate Bill 478 creating a suicide prevention program through the Department of Public Health and Human Services with an annual budget of $400,000 to go toward suicide prevention programs in the state.
Funding Sources:
- 2005 – State grantee of Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act (SAMHSA) funding: Approximately $400,000
- Emergency Medical Services for Children Partnership Grant: $3,000/year
- The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services awarded four grants in the spring of 2004 for $10,000 each to fund local youth suicide prevention efforts. The grants were awarded to the Fetal, Infant and Child Mortality Review Teams in Missoula, Cascade and Yellowstone Counties and the Indian Development and Education Alliance in Miles City
