Legislation/Resolutions:

• 2009 – SB 2168 – This bill requires that the coroner, or any person individual acting as a coroner shall actively consult with the state forensic examiner's office in every death involving characteristics the coroner or acting coroner believes may have resulted from an accident, a suicide, or a homicide, suspicious circumstances, or child abuse or neglect.
  
  
• 2009 – HB 1400 – This bill requires a report to the legislative council regarding content standards for high school health education courses to address a variety of youth health issues which include suicide. Other required topics are: social interactions and problem-solving skills; work and study habits; bullying; gangs; tobacco, drug, and alcohol use; anger, anxiety, and depression.
  
  
• 2009 – HCR 3041 – A concurrent resolution to recognize the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and the AFSP - North Dakota Chapter for their efforts, including: understanding and preventing suicide through research and education; providing programs and resources for individuals with mood disorders and people who are impacted by suicide; and recognizing depression as a mental illness and the risk of suicidal behavior among individuals who suffer from depression.
  
  
• 2009 – Appropriation Bill SB 2004 – North Dakota State Legislature allocated $250,000 to the North Dakota Department of Health for the 2009-2011 biennium to fund suicide prevention activities for all ages statewide.
  
  
• 2007 – Resolution No. 4032 – North Dakota Legislature 2007 passed Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 4032: That the Legislative Council study ways in which schools and school districts can train teachers, counselors, and all other school staff to better identify high-risk students and ways in which schools and school districts can plan and provide programs designed to reduce the incidences of high-risk behaviors that can lead to suicide attempts; and that the Legislative Council report its finding and recommendations, together with any legislation required to implement the recommendations, to the Sixty-first Legislative Assembly.
