  • Special section on warning signs for suicide in new issue of SLTB journal
    The June 2006 issue of Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior (SLTB) contains a special section which includes four articles that discuss emotional impact and ease of recall, clinical applications, efficacy, and internet presentation of warning signs for suicide. The Table of Contents and Abstracts are now available online from the publisher.

  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: Assessing Suicide Risk: Initial Tips for Counselors
    A wallet card with tips on "What to Do If You Think a Person is Having Suicidal Thoughts" is now available from SAMHSA's National Mental Health Information Center. This card uses the new mnemonic "IS PATH WARM" as an aid to guiding questions. Order Cards On-Line, the item is listed alphabetically under N (item # SVP06-0153).

  • SAMHSA Awards $ 9.6 Million for Youth Suicide Prevention and Early Intervention Programs
    On May 17 SAMHSA announced eight new grants to support national suicide prevention efforts under the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act. The grants will go to entities in Alaska, California, Connecticut, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah and Wisconsin. Further grants will be awarded this year under announcements of available funding for campus suicide prevention grants, state-sponsored suicide prevention and post-hurricane Katrina suicide prevention.   • SAMHSA teleconference on self-disclosure of mental health problems
    The SAMHSA Resource Center to Address Discrimination and Stigma Associated With Mental Illness invites you to participate in a free training titled, "Self-disclosure: The Public and Personal Effects of Revealing Mental Health Problems" on Thursday, April 27, 12:00-1:30 PM (EDT). Registration closes at 5 PM (EDT) Wednesday, April 26.

  • New curriculum helps mental health professionals manage suicide risk
    SPRC and the American Association of Suicidology (AAS) announce a new workshop curriculum for mental health professionals and those working in EAP settings. The one-day workshop teaches competencies that are core to assessing and managing suicide risk.
