Utah Youth Suicide Study Phase VI: Treatment for those at highest risk for suicide in
Utah-Juvenile Offenders
Michelle Moskos, Research Instructor, Department of Pediatrics/Intermountain Injury Control Research Center, University of Utah
March 29, 2005
Dr. Moskos, Research Instructor in the Department of Pediatrics at University of Utah, will be presenting on Phase VI of the Utah Youth Suicide Study. This phase, which is currently underway, is a treatment study that provides rapid access to mental health services for teenage males in Third District Juvenile Court, those youth who are at highest risk for suicide in Utah. Previous phases of the study examined data from a variety of state agencies, including Juvenile Justice, and involved the completion of the Youth Outcome Questionnaire. These activities demonstrated that youth in the Juvenile Justice system have poor mental health, which may increase the recidivism rate, and that approximately 63% of youth included in the data analysis who had completed suicide had previous or ongoing contact with Juvenile Justice.
