SPRC Training Institute

The SPRC Training Institute provides an ever-expanding array of curricula designed to build capacity for suicide prevention in state, tribal, local, and community-based organizations. These high-quality curricula reflect the emphasis on training found in the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention, and in that spirit, are provided at the lowest cost possible to individuals and communities across the country.

Descriptions of each of the Institute’s course offerings follow. If you have questions about a particular course or suggestions for additional offerings, please contact us at info@sprc.org.

Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk: Core Competencies for Mental Health Professionals: SPRC, in partnership with the American Association of Suicidology (AAS), has developed a one-day competencies-based curriculum for mental health professionals. Here you will find a description of the workshop, trainers who can deliver it in your community, and a schedule of upcoming workshops.

Strategic Planning for Suicide Prevention: This multi-day workshop (previously known as the “Community Core Competencies Course”) is designed for suicide prevention coalitions and planning groups. Using a public health approach, the course covers topics such as: accessing and using data; evidence-based practices; creating a framework for evaluation; action planning; and working in partnerships. SPRC is now partnering with the Suicide Prevention Action Network (SPAN USA) to disseminate the course.

Discussion Series: The SPRC Discussion Series seeks to foster meaningful dialogue on suicide and suicide prevention among practitioners, researchers, and others working in the field. Recordings of these periodic web-based seminars, as well as supplementary materials from each session, can be accessed online.

Online Workshops: Four self-paced online workshops are available free of charge. Each workshop focuses on youth suicide prevention but much of the content is applicable to suicide across the lifespan. Continuing education credits are available.
